Scripts: Gay Plays
New & Produced
6TH AT PENN THEATRE
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
POSTED 12/1/2007 DEADLINE 3/31/2008
|
|
6th at Penn Theatre, San Diego, California, initiates our new QPlays program with the
inaugural series of five plays to be staged between September 2008
and
March 2009.
Two new musicals and one new non-musical have been
selected and we need two more non-musicals to round out the series.
These plays will be given full productions with 16 performances over
four weeks on our weeknight
schedule (Sunday-Wednesday). |
CONSIDERATIONS_____________________________
|
1 |
|
The characters homosexuality and situations
relative to that are to be central and integral to the story, not
merely incidental to it. |
|
2 |
|
We encourage eroticism, including nudity
or near nudity, as long as it is honest, integral and
organic. |
|
3 |
|
Comedy and comedy/drama is what we need.
Strict drama heavy with problem or message is not suitable
for this series. |
|
4 |
|
You aren't likely to come up with
language that offends us, so don't be concerned about that. |
|
5 |
|
We look for plays that will
hold the audience. Think "entertain." |
|
6 |
|
If minor changes in a script would make
it acceptable to us, we will consult you regarding
changes or rewrites. (Of course, no changes in the script
will be made without writer's permission.) |
|
7 |
|
As is the case with so much of what we do in small
theatres, these productions are being done on a limited budget.
There is, however, some pay for actors and directors and modest
royalties for the playwrights. If the program proves as successful
as we hope it will, we can be more generous with future
productions. |
|
8 |
|
Because of what our experience has taught
us regarding artistic possibilities, budgetary constraints
and audience expectations relative to our theatre, we can
consider only scripts that adhere to the
specifications stated here. |
